Choosing A Contractor
Choosing the right contractor is an important step when it comes time to replacing your heating or air conditioning system. The experts know the procedures that make sure you will be well taken care of long after your equipment is installed. When replacement time comes for you, consider the following contractor guidelines.
Check to make sure the contractor’s license is current and check to make sure they are a member of a local or national organization.
Better Business Bureau
Are they members of the Better Business Bureau? Check the company history on www.bbb.org to see if they are reputable. It’s not only important to see how the company is rated, but also to see how the company follows up after something goes wrong.
Make sure to find out if the contractor has worker’s compensation. If a contractor does not have worker’s compensation the law exposes you, the homeowner, to litigation by the injured party.
Make sure to find out if the contractor has liability insurance. This helps to ensure that you are covered if your property is damaged.
Ask for References
Customers that have used the contractor before will usually be willing to share their experience with you.
Maintenance Plans and Warranties
Ask about maintenance plans and the different warranties and guarantees.
Warranties can vary, so make sure you are fully aware of the warranties and guarantees you are getting with the equipment you choose.
Understand and Get a Written Contract
If you have questions, don’t be afraid to ask. Be wary of contractors that don’t want to give you a signed, written contract specifying your warranties.
We are Licensed Contractors
As a licensed contractor, Service Champions is committed to protecting the satisfaction, homes and provided services of our clients. This means that each and every technician operates to ethical and health-safe standards, eliminating liabilities and instead providing dependable and successful services.
Our Contractor’s State License Board number is 799170. You can visit California’s Department of Consumer Affairs website by clicking here.
Before we get started on your home improvements, we will conduct a diagnosis of your heating and/or air conditioning unit, providing recommendations for upgrades or repairs. After deciding on what service you would like, an upfront price will be given before we start on the job.
This means you won’t be surprised by any hidden charges. You’ll always be kept informed by your technician on the cost of each service and part, making every piece of Service Champions an affordable and reliable asset to your home. We work by the job, not by the hour. This means that when you are having problems with your system, you do not have to worry about being charged an outrageous hourly rate while your system is being worked on.

History of Good Deeds
The name Service Champions came after Leland Smith made the decision of what he wanted his company to portray – He was going to have a company that consisted of only Champions of Service. The culture of Service Champions, from the very beginning, has been to encourage and lead all team members to go above and beyond while serving our clients.
Before Good Deeds, when a team member delivered a memorable act for a client that was more than just air conditioning related, it was called a “Memorable Moment”. Each time a technician finished a service call with a client, the technician was always asked by our dispatch department, “What memorable moment did you create for your client?” We would collect these memorable moments and highlighted the memorable act by the team member in our weekly meetings.
How The Journey Began:
In April of 2009, Leland had a phone conversation with Bill West, a retired radio media specialist. Bill happened to be the brother of one of Leland’s best friends. He had been in the radio business for many years, having worked with dozens of home service companies in the U.S., Canada and Australia, and was willing to give Leland advice on his radio spots. Since radio was new to Leland, any advice was greatly appreciated. Little did Leland know, this conversation was the start of a deep friendship that would forever change not only Leland’s life, but also Service Champions’ brand campaign. Bill took over the writing of Service Champions’ radio spots in May of 2009, thus, the transition of our radio spots began. But not without Bill, first doing his research.
In one of Leland and Bill’s standing weekly conversations, the idea to feature our technicians and their “memorable moments” in the radio spots was brought up. Bill was a bit hesitant at first, having not personally meeting any of our technicians, as he did not want to write stories about technicians if Service Champions could not back up the promise of going above and beyond. Bill wanted to first visit Service Champions to see what our company was about and, more importantly, to see if all of these stories were really true. So, in July of 2009, Bill made the trip to Service Champions from his home in Texas. He sat through one of the Tuesday training meetings, toured the building, met with Leland and all of the Service Champions managers…and unbeknownst to Leland, Bill also interviewed some of the technicians to get a feel for the culture. After the trip, Bill was convinced. Service Champions’ staff was everything thing he was told they were, and more. They truly were Champions of Service. It was at that moment “Good Deeds For Free” was created.
In September of 2009, the first radio spots, featuring Service Champions technicians began playing on the radio, written by our friend Bill West. In January of 2010, the brand slogan was decided, “Service Champions. Heating. A/C. And Good Deeds For Free.” In February 2010, “Heating. A/C. And Good Deeds For Free” became the radio spot tagline.
Good Deeds Today
Our good friend Bill, or Billy to his family, left our lives too early. Billy passed away in November of 2011. We are thankful for his enormous contribution in changing our Service Champions brand campaign. Even more so, we are appreciative that our lives were touched by Billy. His passion for our company, our people, and our clients is one that is irreplaceable.
Bill’s radio partner has now taken over the writing of our Good Deeds radio campaign. Although, nothing can replace the spot we will forever hold in the heart of Service Champions for Billy. Service Champions highlights the Good Deeds done by the technicians in every Tuesday training meeting, and every All Company Meeting held once a month. Good Deeds will continue to be highlighted in radio, newspaper, and direct mail. And… we will always be thankful for Billy’s contribution to our success.
