Some homes provide comfort.
Others provide independence.
For severely injured military Veterans, a thoughtfully designed home can mean the difference between daily obstacles and the freedom to live life on their own terms.
That’s why Service Champions Plumbing, Heating & AC is honored to partner with Homes For Our Troops (HFOT) for the second consecutive year, helping give back to the men and women who sacrificed so much in service to our country.
This year, our team is proud to donate a premium HVAC system, complete ductwork installation, and a whole-home water treatment system for the specially adapted custom home being built for SPC Seth Wakeling.
Building More Than a House
Homes For Our Troops is a nationally recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to building and donating specially adapted custom homes for severely injured post-9/11 Veterans.
Many of these Veterans returned home with life-changing injuries, including:
- Multiple limb amputations
- Partial or full paralysis
- Severe burns
- Blindness
- Traumatic brain injuries (TBI)
Each home is custom designed to restore independence, improve accessibility, and allow Veterans to focus on what matters most: their families, recovery, and building the next chapter of their lives.
Since its founding in 2004, nearly 90 cents of every dollar raised has gone directly toward program services for Veterans—a reflection of the organization’s unwavering commitment to those it serves.
Honoring SPC Seth Wakeling
This year’s home will belong to SPC Seth Wakeling, whose life changed forever on September 26, 2013, while serving as a Combat Engineer with Alpha Company, Special Troops Battalion, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division in Afghanistan.
During his deployment, Seth stepped on an improvised explosive device (IED), suffering devastating injuries that resulted in the loss of his left foot and a traumatic brain injury.
After being airlifted for emergency medical treatment and transferred through multiple military medical facilities, Seth eventually underwent more than fifteen surgeries at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. Despite every effort to save his leg, it was ultimately amputated below the knee.
Like so many Veterans, Seth’s journey didn’t end when he returned home.
It simply entered a new chapter.
A Home Designed for Independence
Today, Seth and his wife, Adriana, are raising their three sons—Jeremiah, Isaac, and Benjamin.
Together, they operate Breaking Bread 406, a home-based sourdough bread business, while Seth also volunteers as a firefighter and works seasonally with the U.S. Forest Service.
Although Seth has adapted remarkably to life after his injuries, his current home doesn’t provide the accessibility needed for long-term independence.
His new Homes For Our Troops residence will.
The custom-designed home will include accessibility features tailored specifically to Seth’s needs, including a continuous walkway around the home that will allow him to safely navigate both inside and outside using his wheelchair.
The goal isn’t simply to build a beautiful house.
It’s to remove barriers that most people never have to think about.
It’s to restore independence.
It’s to provide a place where Seth can continue focusing on his family, recovery, and future.
Delivering Comfort in Every Sense
As part of this incredible project, Service Champions will proudly donate:
- A premium high-efficiency HVAC system
- Complete custom ductwork
- A whole-home water treatment system
Every family deserves a comfortable home.
For Veterans who have sacrificed so much for our country, providing that comfort is an honor.
Our team installs air conditioning systems, furnaces, water heaters, plumbing equipment, and indoor air quality solutions every day throughout Southern California. But projects like this remind us that our work can have an even deeper purpose.
It’s about helping someone live more freely.
Giving Back Beyond HVAC and Plumbing
Many homeowners know Service Champions for:
- Air conditioning repair and installation
- Heating and furnace replacement
- Plumbing services
- Drain cleaning and rooter services
- Water heater installation
- Whole-home water treatment
- Indoor air quality solutions
But supporting organizations like Homes For Our Troops reflects another important part of who we are.
We believe the communities we serve become stronger when businesses use their resources to make a meaningful difference.
Whether it’s helping a homeowner through our Good Deeds for Free program, granting wishes through Make-A-Wish, or helping build accessible homes for injured Veterans, we’re committed to serving people—not just houses.
A Small Way to Say Thank You
No home could ever repay the sacrifices made by SPC Seth Wakeling and countless other Veterans.
But if a comfortable, accessible home can make everyday life a little easier…
If reliable heating and air conditioning can provide peace of mind…
If clean water and thoughtfully designed spaces can help restore independence…
Then it’s a contribution we’re proud to make.
To Seth, Adriana, Jeremiah, Isaac, and Benjamin—we’re honored to be a small part of your family’s next chapter.
And to Homes For Our Troops, thank you for continuing to build more than homes.
You’re building freedom, dignity, and hope—one Veteran at a time.
