What A C Repair Do You Need? (Part 1)

When the air conditioning is acting out, it might be time for A C Repair. It can be hard enough to figure out what the problem is and what to do about it. Fortunately, the symptoms can often lead us to properly identify the trouble zone. Though many of these situations require the assistance of your HVAC specialist, for your own peace of mind, you can learn what ails your central air.

If the conditioned air smells funny…

There may be microbiological growth inside of the central air system affecting the indoor air quality. Small amounts of water collect naturally from condensation as the central air system consistently drops and rises in temperature. Drainpipes and pans connect here and there to safely lead water out from the central air to an external location. However, when water manages to collect inside the central air for one reason or another, with enough time, it gives way to microbiological growth such as mildew and mold.

The A C repair you need is a general air conditioner maintenance performed by your trusted HVAC contractor.

If the air conditioner short cycles…

Short cycling is when the central air system turns on and off at a higher frequency than usual. This happens when the heat load in the home gets too high and additional stress is placed on the system, forcing it to work twice as hard.

Dirty air filters can also contribute to short cycling central air systems. In fact, because there can be a number of reasons why a system may short cycle, it is best to have your air conditioning specialist visit for a thorough evaluation. He or she can provide a personalized A C repair.

If the air conditioner itself feels cold and icy…

Most likely, you have a dirty filter that has not been changed in a very long time.

Before air is conditioned, it must pass through the air filter where airborne particles are separated. Then, the air passes over the evaporator coils, which are chilled to low temperatures.

When air filter is packed with dirt, dust and other particles there is less air that can pass through the filter. This means that less air passes over the same amount of cool temperature from the evaporator coils. With not enough tepid air to offset the dropping temperature of the coils, the coils ice over, freezing dust and other debris alongside it.

The A C repair you need is an intensive cleaning. It is best to leave this in the hands of your air conditioning specialist as water can present dangers when nearby electrical panels and other parts.
