3 Questions You Absolutely Need to Ask When Replacing Your Furnace

You’re feeling pretty confident. You’ve got your eyes on a new energy efficient furnace that you’re expecting to give you a ton of savings. However, if the furnace isn’t properly installed, it doesn’t matter how energy efficient it is. That’s why, if you’re getting a new installation soon, you need to ask your heating company these three questions. If they don’t give you satisfactory answers, then you might want to look for a different company.

1. “What size furnace should I get?”

Oversized equipment will cycle on and off more frequently. This makes the home less comfortable and can lower the life of the furnace.

If it’s too small, it’ll be running constantly, which will run up your energy bill.

2. “How are my air ducts?”

Air ducts can be a major cause of inefficient heating and cooling systems. Therefore, it is important to make sure your ducts are properly designed, insulated and sealed. Otherwise you’re just throwing money away every time you turn on your furnace.

Ask the contractor if they have taken a look at your air ducts.

3. “Do you have references?”

Before trusting a heating contractor to install your furnace, make sure you ask for references and check their Better Business Bureau (BBB) rating.

You should also make sure they have the appropriate licenses and are insured to be working on your property.
