Attic Insulation

Attic Insulation Creates an Efficient Central Air System

As energy costs rise, families often opt to cut down on heating and central air conditioning only to realize how much of a necessity it really is. There’s another underlying reason why your energy bills may be as high as they are. Some homes do not have attic insulation.

Why should you insulate your attic?

Home insulation works to keep cold air or hot air inside of your home and helps block the outdoor climate from creeping into your home. Attic insulation also allows your central air system to run more efficiently. Unfortunately, most attics lack the same insulation needed to prevent 97 percent of inefficient air conditioning.

What happens in the attic without spray insulation?

The attic is an extension of the home, but its habitat is far different from the rest of the home. In the summer, attic temperature can reach up to 125-130 degrees, most of that heat is absorbed from outside. That heated air is trapped up in the attic space, slowly permeating throughout your home.

Because this temperature is so extreme, when you set the thermostat to a comfortable 70-74 degrees, your central air system grinds constantly to fight against 125-degree air that should not be in the home in the first place.

Attic insulation achieves just that.

How Attic Insulation Works

Attic insulation, targets the area in your home most vulnerable to absorbing and allowing outdoor temperature from seeping in. There are two types of attic insulation Service Champions can do for you.

Blown-in Insulation

The blown-in fiberglass insulation, also known as spray insulation, blankets the attic floor with 6 – 12 inches of fiberglass insulation. Heat absorbed from attic cracks are trapped into the fiberglass, preventing the heat from transferring into the home through the deck and other leaks.

Radiant Insulation

The radiant-barrier insulation staples several metal sheets onto the under deck of the roof until it is completely covered. This prevents heat from penetrating through the attic in the first place.

Benefits of Attic Insulation

Attic insulation has many unbeatable benefits:

  • Prevents up to 97 percent of outdoor temperature from seeping into the home from the attic
  • Lowers energy costs
  • Allows better, more efficient air conditioning in summer and winter
  • Less noise disrupting home comfort
  • Protects attic storage and utility from overheating
